Ashdod
Port set a new port record May 6 for the number of containers moved in
one hour. Port workers moved 2650 containers vessel to port in only
three shifts. This type of job normally takes over 5 shifts, moving an
average of 10 containers an hour. Earlier in the week, the port set a
new record for containers moved in 1 day -- 5,013, an increase of 10
percent from the previous record established in October 2011 according
to Port2Port. This is welcome news for all those who use the port,
especially as the busy summer season begins.

Looking for Work at the Ashdod Port?
Anyone interested in having a chance to work at the 39th best place in Israel, the Ashdod Port, can go to the port's official website. There is expected to be a job opening for a dockworker (???? in Hebrew) soon. A good dose of nepotism, however, is still in play when trying to find a job at the Ashdod Port. According to a 2007 report by the state comptroller, 40 percent of jobs there went to relatives of port employees. The current application process requires job applicants to declare if they have relatives working at the port.
